Originally from Cuba but also inspired by rumba, Broadway dance, swing, jazz, and Latin hustle, the New York style mambo is enjoyed throughout the world because of its high energy and infectious rhythms. New York style mambo was created in Manhattan—notably at the famous midtown Palladium Ballroom—and is also referred to as “salsa on 2” since it is danced on the second beat of the bar of music. NY Style Mambo has a flirtatious energy in its partnering, hip movements, and footwork. In this class, students will learn and develop upon the rhythms, footwork, and musicality of NY Style Mambo.
